The national football pool will commence training on September 13, the three-member football administration committee has decided.
Training is in preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asia Cup 2027 qualifying first-round matches. Following an agreement made by former Football Sri Lanka president Umar Jaswar with the Qatar Football Association in the past, two coaches from England and Australia will be arriving for training. The foreign head coach is Andrew Morris (England), while the assistant coach is Keith Steven (Australia).
The national pool has been inactive for the past seven months because of the FIFA ban.
The FSL Football Administration Committee has selected 30 members for national pool training.
Sri Lanka is scheduled to play Yemen on October 12 and 17 on a home and away basis. The Sri Lanka team is expected to be selected before October 5.
