The start of the 2024 National School Games (NSG) has been put off by 10 days, the Ministry of Education revealed yesterday.
The NSG was earlier scheduled to start on September 15 with a total of 32 sports disciplines but it has been put off by 10 days due to the Presidential Election on September 21, Director Sports Ministry of Education Anura Abeywickrema told the Daily Mirror.
The decision to postpone the NSG was unanimously recommended by the respective Provincial Education Sports Directors, during a meeting held at the Education Ministry.
Therefore, stage one of the NSG comprising 12 sports disciplines will now be held from September 25 to 30 in Colombo.
The events that will be worked off during the NSG stage one are swimming, gymnastics, wrestling, tennis, weightlifting, judo, softball cricket, netball, physical training competition, beach volleyball and taekwondo.
Meanwhile, stage two of the NSG will be held from October 5 to 9, stage three of the NSG will be held from October 12 to 14 and stage four of the NSG will be held on October 19.
