Naveed Nawaz will be joining the Sri Lanka team for a two-year period
With Sri Lanka set to tour Bangladesh next month, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has added some more experience to their coaching staff, with the appointment of former Sri Lanka cricketer Naveed Nawaz as assistant coach of the side.
Nawaz will be joining the team for a two-year period, with his first international assignment with the national team coming up next month when Sri Lanka tours Bangladesh for a two-match ICC World Test Championship series.
The upcoming tour will also be the first assignment of newly appointed head coach Chris Silverwood, who will now be joined by Nawaz as an assistant coach, Chaminda Vass as a fast bowling coach, Piyal Wijetunge as a spin bowling coach, and Manoj Abeywickrama as the national team’s fielding and support coach.
Nawaz played one Test and three ODIs for Sri Lanka between 1998 and 2002. He was previously serving as Bangladesh U-19 team coach and had guided the team to the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup glory in 2020.
Sri Lanka, in their upcoming tour against Bangladesh, will play two Test matches. The first Test will begin on May 15 in Chattogram, followed by the second Test in Dhaka, which starts on May 23.
