Navy crowned Dialog Rugby 7s champions

Navy SC were crowned Dialog Rugby Sevens 2017 champions when they beat CR & FC – A by 21 points to 17 in the Cup Final played at the Racecourse Grounds on Sunday.

Navy, who scored the winning try in the dying stages of the game through Buddima Piyaratne, led 14 points to 12 at lemons. The game was intense from the very beginning but Navy proved to be the superior of the two sides as they held on to the slender lead to claim victory.

Navy beat Havelock SC in the quarters and progressed to the final after beating Police SC 33 – 5. CR & FC – A booked their berth in the final after beating Peterson SC and Air Force – A in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

CR & FC – B were able to claim the Shield with much ease after seeing off Air Force SC 36 points to nil while Havelock SC were adjudged Bowl champions after beating Army SC 26 – 12.

The penultimate match was played for the Plate between Police SC – A and Air Force SC – A, which was secured by the law enforcement officers after a close game, with the scores reading 22 – 19.

Navy’s Buddima Piyaratne was adjourned the most valuable player of the tournament while the trophy for the most tries scored was grabbed by Nishon Perera of Havelock SC after touching down 11 times.
