Navy SC came out victorious against Army SC in a high-scoring encounter of the Nippon Paint Rugby League tournament by 41 points to 30 in the match played at the Navy ground in Welisara on Friday.

Navy SC, after taking a comfortable 29-13 lead at the breather, made up their points through four goals, two tries, and a penalty compared to the two goals, two tries, and two penalties scored by Army SC.

It was a rain of tries, with ten tries scored in total. The try fest began with Army SC scoring the first from an unconverted try by Ashan Bandara.

But Navy SC, undeterred, came back with vengeance as they scored a hat-trick of tries, all of which were scored by Harsha Maduranga and Thanuja Malimbada went over for the Sailors’ fourth try.

The resumption saw the two teams sharing honours, with Navy SC scoring two tries, one by Lahiru Herath and the other by Thanuja Maduranga, which was his second of the match, with Thilina Weerasinghe and Samuel Maduwantha making the conversions.

Army SC replied with three tries in this session through Vinod Kumar, Sudaraka Dikkumbura and Ashan Bandara, with Isuru Medagedera converting two.

He had earlier booted over two penalties, but it proved to be in vain as it could not prevent the Sailors from coming out victorious.
