Navy Sports Club came from behind to seal their second win of the SLR League Rugby Championship 2022 at Welisara today.

The Sailors eventually bagged the crucial victory with an 18 points (2 tries, 2 penalties, 1 conversation) to 13 (1 try, 2 penalties, 1 conversation) score line.

Despite being underdogs on paper, the young CR side came out all guns blazing from kick-off racing to a brilliant 10-00 lead inside fifteen minutes as hooker Supun Warnakulasooriya touched down early on. Fly half Kavindu Nandila added the extras before booting over a penalty five minutes later.

The home team once again stuck to their strengths, which is that heavy pack, and they continued to put pressure on the Red Shirts before sending Adeesha Weeratunga over the line for their first try, converted by fly half Chandimal as the scores read 10-07 in favour of CR.

However, Navy turned the tables within the first ten minutes of the second half as prop Amith Gunasinghe touched down in the 50th minute adding to the 42nd minute penalty by Chathura Seneviratne claiming a lead of 15-10.

Both the teams scored three points apiece in the last fifteen minutes of the game through penalties setting up a thrilling end at 18-13, but Navy with their experience held on to the win.
