Nisala Tharaka’s six wicket haul helped Sri Lanka ‘A’ to record an easy outright win by an innings and 26 run over Afghanistan ‘A’ in the one off Test match concluded at P. Sara Stadium yesterday.
Afghanistan ‘A’ resuming from their overnight score of 108 for 2 and needing a further 129 runs to avoid an innings defeat lasted only 25.2 overs as they were bowled out for 211.
Apart from overnight batsmen Ijaz Ahmad and Imran Mir who both made half tons and shared a partnership of 54 runs for the third wicket the others failed to make any impression and from a position of 145 for 5 they lost their remaining five wickets for an addition of just 66 runs as Tharaka who grabbed four of those ran through the late order batting to steer the host side to an easy victory.
Result:
At P Sara Stadium – Sri Lanka ‘A’ won by an innings and 26 runs
Sri Lanka ‘A’ 435
Afghanistan ‘A’ 198 and (108/2 overnight) 211 (Ijaz Ahmad 54, Imran Mir 53, Naveed Zadran 34, Ihsanullah Janat 27, Abdul Hadi 19: Nisala Tharaka 6/42, Nishan Peiris 2/63).
