Dasun Shanaka will continue to lead Sri Lanka T20I team for the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, with a 20-member squad, inclusive of three standbys already picked.
“At present we are not sure whether the standbys would also travel to the UAE. It will depend on the Covid situation in the UAE and Sri Lanka. At both locations there are still concerns about the pandemic,” a top source at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said.

SLC is awaiting the Sports Minister’s approval before announcing the squad.

It is also learnt that there are no new comers in the chosen squad.

The players are scheduled to begin their training from Friday at the R. Premadasa Stadium under the watchful eyes of coaching staff, sans head coach and the physio.

Head Coach Chris Silverwood and physio Brett Harrop are returning to the island on August 21, while Assistant and Batting Coach Naveed Nawaz has already returned from Australia, it is understood.

“The selector on tour will be Hemantha Wickramaratne”, the source said, adding, “Our chief selector Pramodya Wickramasinghe is unwell (cough and fever) and being hospitalized (Lanka Hospital), but will recover soon.”
