Northern Province win NSG football title after five years

Northern Province and Western Province clinched the Men’s and Women’s Championships respectively at the 48th National Sports Games (NSG) Inter-Provincial Football Tournament held at the Duraiappa Stadium in Jaffna.  

The Men’s Tournament final between Northern Province and North Western Province ended in a 0-0 draw but the former won the penalty shootout 4-3.  

Meanwhile, Western Province beat North Western Province 4-3 in the Women’s Championship final.  

Northern Province won the NSG football championship after a lapse of five years while the North Western Province had the satisfaction of reaching both finals.   

The Women’s final between Western Province and North Western Province ended in a 0-0 draw but Western Province edged out their opponents 4-3 in the penalty shootout.   

Southern Province and Sabaragamuwa Province secured third place in the Men’s and Women’s Tournament respectively.
