Osada Fernando on the way for 50

Half tons by Oshada Fernando, Kamil Mishara and skipper Kamindu Mendis put Kandy on top against Dambulla at the end of the first day’s play in the National Super League Provincial four day encounter played at the Pallekele Stadium.
Kandy taking first lease of the wicket ended day one on 297 for 3 before bad light put an early stop to proceedings. Kandy was given a sound start by openers Kamil Mishara and Lasith Croospulle who together put on 58 runs.
Mishara joined by Fernando further consolidated the innings with the pair associating in a valuable 147-run stand for the second wicket before they were separated with the dismissal of Kamil who made 74 that included seven boundaries.
Fernando did not last long as he was unfortunate to miss out on a ton being dismissed for 97 runs that included seven boundaries and a six. That was all the success that the Dambulla bowlers had as skipper Kamindu Mendis who remained unbeaten on 51 and Lahiru Udara put on an unbroken 62 runs stand for the fourth for Kandy to end the day on 297 for 3.
Jaffna was made to struggle for their runs on day one by the Galle bowlers as they ended the day on 218 for 9 before bad light stopped play in another match of the same tournament played at the Sooriyawewa Stadium. The matches will be continued today.
