Para TT star Dinesh Deshapriya wins gold in Egypt

Sri Lanka’s Para Table Tennis player PD Dinesh Deshapriya Silva won a gold medal in the class 09 category at the FA Egypt Table Tennis Championships held on February 26 in Cairo, Egypt.

There were 13 participants from six countries that competed at the tournament.

Dinesh Deshapriya beat H.H. Hussein of Egypt in the Final 3-0 to win the gold medal match.

Earlier he beat Abdel Latif Ahamed of Egypt 3-0 in the quarter-finals and Didier Lucas of France 3-0 in the semi-finals.

Dinesh Deshapriya belongs to the High Performance team of athletes in Tier 01 and is the number one ranked Para Table Tennis player in Sri Lanka.

He was accompanied by Brigadier Dhananjaya Aludeniya, Vice President of the National Paralympic Committee as Manager.  

This was the first major title won by Dinesh Deshapriya after a lapse of three years since the Thai Open Para tournament in 2019 as he could not take part in any overseas tournament due to the COVID outbreak in 2020 followed by the economic crisis thereafter.
