Havelock Sports Club Full-back Prince Chamara inspired his team to a 27-13 win over CH & FC yesterday (15) in their Dialog Rugby League match played at Race Course grounds.

They scored four tries, two of which were converted, and a penalty which consolidated their 15-03 half-time lead, while CH & FC managed two tries and a penalty.

It was Chamara who scored the first points of the day, booting over a 22-metre penalty, before Prop Forward Charana Chamikara extended that lead with a 13th minute try near the corner flag. Chamara’s subsequent conversion gave Havelock a 10-00 lead.

CH & FC Captain and Fly-half Rohitha Rajapaksa put over a penalty five minutes later to reduce the deficit, but Randy Silva snuck in a try from a line-out with half-time fast approaching.

The conversion was missed but Havelock still carried a 12 point lead into the breather.

CH & FC made the brighter start to the second half when Winger Hashan Maduranga beat out the Havelock defence to give his team their first try, but there was no immediate addition to the scoreboard as Rajapaksa missed the conversion.

However, any momentum gained by the home team was quickly quelled by Havies, and Chamara in particular, as the Full-back profited off a turn over to run 25-metres and score.

Chamara missed the conversion but Havies had restored their 12-point half-time lead.

CH would manage one more unconverted try, through Centre Nishon Perera, to keep things interesting, but Havies hooker Azmir Fajurdeen crashed over for a try, to ensure the victory for the Park club.

Chamara was successful with the try.

The win means Havelock still maintained their 100 percent record this season, while CH & FC remain win-less in three games.

CR hand Air Force 35-17 drubbing

In-form CR & FC registered a 35-17 win over Air Force SC when the two sides met in their Dialog Rugby League 2019/20 encounter at the Air Force Grounds, Ratmalana.

The scores read 28-10, in favour of the visitors, at half-time.

The hosts opened the scoring but it went all bleak for there as CR & FC kept scoring at regular intervals while keeping their opponents at bay. - SN
