Rathnayaka MMV, Lyceum create history at Schools Athletic Meet

The achievements of A. Rathnayaka MMV Walala athletes at  the 2022 All-Island Schools Games Athletic Championship was quite  significant as they retained the Girls’ overall title for the 16th  successive year at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.   


The athletes of A. Rathnayaka MMV won the Under-20 Girls’  Championship, Relay Championship and emerged runners-up in the Mixed  Schools Championship and set up three new Games records.   


Rathnayaka MMV also produced the Best Athlete in the Girls’  Championship in the form of Tharushi Karunarathna, who established new  records in the Under-20, 400m and 800m respectively.   


Meanwhile, Lyceum Wattala created history by winning the  Boys’ overall athletic championship at the Schools Games for the first  time.   


Lyceum won the Under-14, Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20  Mixed Championship and emerged runners-up in three other age group  events in addition to setting up one new Games record.
