Colts CC outclassed Kalutara TC by an innings and 145 runs to begin the Major Club Emerging Tournament on a winning note in the match concluded at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona yesterday.

The foundation for the win was laid on the second day by former Thomian cricketer Ravindu Rashantha and Avishka Perera who both made swashbuckling knocks with Rashantha cracking a 245 ball unbeaten knock of 224 inclusive of 28 boundaries and two sixes and Perera making 172 in 228 balls which had 25 boundaries. The pair put on a massive 395 runs stand for the second wicket for Colts CC to make a score of 445 for 2 declared in reply to Kalutara TC’s score of 125 runs.

Kalutara TC resuming their second innings from the overnight score of 91 for 3 and needing a further 229 runs to avoid an innings defeat fell short with Kavindu Amantha and Rohan Sanjaya who together shared nine wickets between them bowling out Kalutara TC for 179 runs.

Three other outright wins were recorded by Army SC, Moors SC and Sebastianites CC against Kandy Customs SC, Navy SC and SSC while NCC along with CCC, Galle CC, Panadura SC and Chilaw Marians CC had to be satisfied with first inning wins.
