A record number of 188 teams will compete at the National Beach Volleyball 2023 (Men and Women) Championship, according to the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) Beach Volleyball Competition Committee.
SLVB has made arrangements to hold this tournament consisting of four age categories from May 19 to 21 at Negombo Beach Park.

This is the first time that the National Beach Volleyball Championship is being organised since 2019, when it was stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For the first time, the tournament will include categories for Under 16 and 19 for boys and girls.

Since many schools in the island have started playing beach volleyball, steps have been taken to include these two age groups with the aim of giving those athletes a chance to compete at national level.

In the U-16 category 36 boys’ teams and 31 girls’ teams have entered the tournament, while in the U-19 age group 39 boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams will compete.

Additionally, 23 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams will participate in the Under 20 tournament, while 23 men’s teams and 13 women’s teams will feature in the Open category.

Meanwhile, a national squad has been formed targeting several international beach volleyball tournaments to be held in the future. It includes eight men and eight women players.
