Regent Battle of Maroons revived after 27 years

Two schools in the Gampaha district Sri Pangnananda MMV Raddoluwa and Harischandra National School Negombo will meet in the cricket field again after a lapse of over two and a half decades when they clash in the Negombo Regent Battle of Maroons big match scheduled to be played on March 31 at the FTZ ground in Katunayake.  

The revival of the big match has been due to the efforts put in by the dedicated old boys of the two schools who together have not left any stone unturned to make it a reality since they last met each other way back in the year 1996.  

The two schools are presently involved in the ongoing Under 19 inter-schools cricket tournament and have completed their quota of matches with fourth year player and all-rounder Suchira Mihiran leading Sri Pangnananda MMV and Theekshana Silva leading Harischandra National School.  

Looking back at the performance of the two teams it seems that they are equally balanced with Sri Pangnananda MMV having played nine matches succeeding to record four outright wins and two first inning wins while on the other hand Harishchandra NS from the seven matches that they have played have recorded five outright wins.  

Sri Pangnananda MMV skipper Mihiran will bank on players in the likes of Ishodya Yashohara, Yasintha Semal, Madupa Sudesh, Sachintha Sandaruwan, Achina Kanil, Sithum Vimarshana and Dinuk Aloka in the batting and bowling departments. 

 
 On the other hand Harishchandra NS led by Theekshana Silva who is their leading scorer will depend on Sithum Avishka, Shakila Ashen, Deneth Bimsara, Thevindu Chamath, Rashen Shalinga, Devinda Dharshana and Randul de Silva to make their contributions to bolster the scoreboard and to restrict their opponents.
