Sri Lanka delivered an impressive performance placing second on the leaderboard with a combined score of 143 during a thrilling opening-round of the Asia Pacific World Junior Golf Championships in Manila, Philippines yesterday.

The Sri Lankan duo of Reshan Algama and Kaya Daluwatta showed their remarkable skills, finishing just two shots behind the leading European Golf Association Team, which posted a total of 141 points.

Algama, the young golfer, had an outstanding day on the course. He finished the day tied for second place on the individual leaderboard with a fantastic three-under-par round of 69.

His under-par achievement highlighted his potential and ability to compete at the highest level among international competitors.

Meanwhile, Daluwatta also put in a solid performance, ending the day tied for fifth with a score of 74, just two over par.

Her contribution was crucial in keeping Sri Lanka in the hunt for the top spot with two more days of competition remaining.

De Tom of the European Union led the individual standings with an impressive five-under-par round while Lau Arianna took the lead in the Girls’ division with a four-under-par round.

Jevahn Sathasivam, a private entry from Sri Lanka, had a challenging day, finishing the leaderboard with a score of 85.

With 17 countries competing, Sri Lanka’s performance on day one has set the stage for a highly competitive tournament.

The team will look to build on this strong start as they continue to challenge the leading European Team and fend off competition from other top contenders, including South Korea and Chinese Taipei, who are closely following.
