Rohan concludes six-year term as President of SLB

After six years of dedicated leadership, Rohan de Silva will step down as President of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), marking the end of the organisation’s trans-formative era.   

His tenure, which will conclude on May 31, 2025, has been characterised by a steadfast commitment to the growth and development of badminton across the country, positioning Sri Lanka as a formidable force on the international stage. De vSilva’s Presidency began in 2019 when SLB was poised for change. Under his guidance, the organisation saw unprecedented success, from grassroots initiatives to elite-level achievements.   

His strategic vision and passion for the sport have not only enhanced the visibility of badminton in the country but have also fostered a culture of excellence and inclusivity within the badminton community. Throughout his term, he has been instrumental in launching several key initiatives, including many programmes and achievements such as national tournaments, youth development programmes or international collaborations, coaching development, technical officials enhancement, the introduction of air badminton, training of a national pool of players etc, popularising the sport throughout the country.  

His efforts have led to a significant increase in participation at all levels from provinces and districts to the national team. “Serving as President of SLB has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” de Silva stated.   

“It is essential that we continue to prioritise inclusivity and accessibility within the sport. Encouraging the participation of players and officials from all backgrounds will ensure that badminton remains a vibrant and diverse community.”   

“Furthermore, I urge the next leader to remain open to innovation while respecting the traditions that have made our association what it is today.”
