SL to face Canada, Australia in Beach VB opening games

The Sri Lanka Men’s and Women’s Beach Volleyball Teams will play their opening matches of the 22nd Commonwealth Games on Sunday (31) at the Smith Field Grounds in Birmingham, England.  

In fact, Sri Lanka is the only Asian country to field a Men’s and Women’s Team at this event, which will commence with the curtain raiser match between Canada and Ghana on Saturday.  


The Sri Lanka Men’s Team will confront 2018 Silver Medallist Canada in their Group ‘B’ opening fixture while the Women’s Team will take on the 2018 Silver Medallist Australia in their Group ‘A’ opening encounter.  
Malinda Yapa and Ashen Rashmika will represent the Sri Lanka Men’s Team while Deepika Bandara and Chathurika Weerasinghe will represent the Sri Lanka Women’s Team.  


The Sri Lanka Men’s Beach Volleyball Team is currently placed 41st in the FIVB Rankings while the Sri Lanka Women’s Beach Volleyball Team is placed 265th in the FIVB Rankings.
