SL to field Women’s VB Team at 2022 Asian Games

The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) is planning to field a Women’s Indoor Team at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China from September 10 to 25 next year. 


The SLVB has already written to the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Sports Ministry requesting permission to field a Women’s Team for the first time at an Asian Games. 


The Sri Lanka Men’s Volleyball Team of course, participated at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and at the Asian Beach Volleyball Games. The Sri Lanka Women’s Volleyball Team has earlier won the Gold Medal at the South Asian Games.


 The Sri Lanka Men’s Volleyball Team is currently placed 55th in the FIVB Rankings and the Women’s Team is placed in 67th place. Meanwhile, the SLVB is hoping to field a team at the 2021 Asian Central Zone Women’s Tournament as preparation for the Asian Games. 


The Asian Central Zone Women’s Volleyball Tournament, conducted by the Asian Volleyball Confederation will be held in December in New Delhi, India with the participation of ten countries. 


The SLVB is planning to form a 25-member National Pool targeting the event and a special selection trial will be held on August 7 and 8 at the Volleyball House in Galle.
