Sri Lanka will be hosting 7th Central Asia Men’s Challenge Cup 2023 Volleyball Tournament for which a squad of 18 senior players has now started training, according to the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB).
Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) and SLVB have taken steps to hold the tournament from October 12-17 at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.
This is the first international volleyball tournament to be held in Sri Lanka in 2023.
The final 12 players of the Sri Lankan team for the tournament are expected to be selected before September 30 and forwarded to the Sports Minister for approval, says SLVB Secretary A.S. Nalaka.
Eight countries in the Central Asia region are going to participate in this tournament. They are hosts Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
This will be the first international volleyball tournament to be held in Sri Lanka in 2023 and the last international tournament in which Sri Lanka will participate.
SLVB says that the estimate for hosting the tournament is 15 million rupees.
