Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) is considering fielding a 4x400 metre Mixed Relay team at the World Junior Athletics Championships to be held from August 17 to 22 in Nairobi, Kenya.
One male and three females have qualified to take part in the competition.
As all these athletes are sprinters, Sri Lanka could take part in the 4x400m Mixed Relay event by adding one more male athlete, SLA President Maj. Gen. (rtd) Palitha Fernando said.
SLA has requested the national selection committee to consider adding another track and field athlete for this championship. The athletes who have qualified for the competition are Medhani Jayamanne (Women’s 100m, 200m) from Lumbini College, Colombo, Shanika Lakshani (Women’s 800m) from Holy Cross College, Gampaha, Tharushi Karunaratne (Women’s 800m) from A.
