Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) will inaugurate the newest version of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) - air badminton - at a soft launch on Wednesday (September 28) at the Decathlon Arena in Pelawatte, Battaramulla, Sri Lanka.

HSBC, the premier BWF sponsor of air badminton, has come forward to sponsor the launch in Sri Lanka and will follow with a mega event of their own in early October.
Air badminton has been designed to take the sport out of the traditional courts into the outdoors so that all can enjoy badminton as they have never done before.
BWF has been experimenting for a long time now to produce a special shuttle that can withstand wind effects. After much effort, the new air shuttle was launched in 2019 and has grown in popularity the world over.

Several countries play the game now for fun and recreation, but competition has also grown in interest, with the BWF now planning international competitions next year.
SLB has also come on stream and are proud to take the game to the provinces too, with simultaneous launches planned in Vavuniya, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Bandarawela, and Ambalangoda, and many other districts ready to come on board.

The game follows the standard badminton court dimensions and rules with a few modifications to encourage novice players and family participation.
In addition to a singles game, you can also play doubles and even triples. Rackets are standard too, but the special air shuttle is preferred.
