In a most recent development in Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the three esteemed members of the Sri Lanka Cricket Medical Advisory have made the decision to step down from their positions in order to pursue new opportunities within the National Sports Council.

Professor Arjuna Silva, and Dr. Harindu Wijesinghe, who were appointed to their roles in 2021, have been appointed to key positions within the National Sports Council by Sports Minister Harin Fernando. Professor Arjuna will take on the role of a board member, and Dr. Wijesinghe will contribute to the Sports Science Medical Advisory.

Speaking exclusively from Colombo over the telephone, Professor de Silva expressed confidence in the capabilities of the current cricket board sports medicine team, stating that the transition will be smooth and that the departing members will continue to support the team from their positions in the Sports Medicine Council. With the current levels of fitness nearing optimum levels, the future of Sri Lankan cricket looks promising.

“Additionally, the team boasts several star players who have the potential to excel in any international side. Recent achievements, such as ranking fifth in the World Test Championship, winning the Asia Cup after an eight-year hiatus, and reaching the finals of the Asia Cup, demonstrate the team’s potential despite the setback faced at the World Cup.”

“The current structure of cricket, led by Sanath Jayasuriya as the Director of Cricket, Dr Daminda chief medical officer SLC as well as the trainers and coaches, ensures that Sri Lankan cricket will continue to build upon these achievement,” he signed off.
