The Sri Lanka Paralympic Committee (SLPC) has formed a 52-member national pool in preparation for two international para athletic tournaments this year. The World Para Athletic Championship will be held from June 8 to 17 in Paris and Asian Para Games from October 20 to 28 in Hangzhou. Among the poolists are 13 international medal winners and 39 para athletes who are in the top10 in the world rankings, SLPC president Lt Col Deepal Herath told the ‘Daily Mirror’.
The Sports Ministry has made arrangements to pay a sum of rupees one lakh to the 13 medal winners and Rs 25,000 each to the 30 para athletes ranked among the top 10 in the world.
Each national poolist will have to undergo a Performance Test every month. If they fail the test first time, they will be given a warning and will be ejected from the pool if they fail a second time, the SLPC president said.
