Following a strong display in the Commonwealth Games 2022, Sri Lanka national 7’s team once again proved that on their day they could challenge stronger teams.
The players, administrators and fans themselves have clearly understood that Sri Lanka’s best chances in making it big lies in the shorter format for the Tuskers.
Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) having recognized this has joined hands with Nippon Paint Lanka in organizing a Provincial Rugby Tournament representing all levels of rugby in the nation.
SLR President Rizly Illyas and Nippon Paint Lanka General Manager, Nemantha Abeysinghe on Wednesday (17) signed an agreement.

Southern Province Inter Club Women’s Rugby 7s Tournament at Aloysius College in Galle on August 21, will kick off the series which will certainly help the female rugby stars in the country.

The home of club rugby champions Kandy Sports Club, the Nittawela Stadium, will host the Central Province Inter School Under 12 and Under 14 tournament on September 10.
The most exciting of the lot, the Western Province Inter Club 7’s Rugby Tournament, will be played at the Police Park on September 11.
Western Province Inter University Women’s Tag Rugby Tournament will be held at CR Grounds in Longden Place on September 17.

SLR believes that the series of tournaments would offer an excellent opportunity for the players of all levels to showcase their talent.
