Former Trinity cricket “Lion”, national player, Badureliya CC Head Coach, under-19 spin coach, Jaffna Stallions spin coach, and NSL spin coach of Jaffna, Sachith Pathirana, took over the Head Coach position at Tamil Union recently.

Pathirana played for Trinity under-19 for nearly seven years and made his debut against Pakistan in 2015 at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium. A year later, at the same venue, he made his T20 debut against Australia. He played in 18 one-day games and five T20 encounters for Sri Lanka before retiring prematurely.
He played for several leading clubs, such as CCC, Ragama CC, Colts CC, Chilaw Marians, and Baduraliya CC.
Pathirana is an ICC (International Cricket Council) Level-3 coach.

He served as the under-19 spin bowling coach for three years from 2019. He was involved in Jaffna’s two consecutive title wins in the LPL (Lanka Premier League).

Also, a notable improvement in Sri Lanka’s under-19 camp is that in the last 20 encounters they have faced, the spinners have destroyed the opposition teams with 122 wickets. This includes two home series against Bangladesh and England, plus the Youth ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which took place in the West Indies recently.
