Army Sports Club failed to complete a stunning comeback against CR and FC in the opening day of SLR League Tournament as they were held to a 16-all draw at Havelock Park yesterday.

With the game deadlocked at 16 points-a-piece, the Soldiers had the opportunity to script the perfect comeback when they were handed a penalty in the final move of the game, but one of their most senior players in full back Gayan Salinda failed to add the points off a pretty straightforward kick.

CR secured their 16 points in the first half through two tries and as many penalties before they were reduced to 14 following a second yellow card for number eight Zayan Zabar.

Army, having fallen behind 06-16 at the breather, struck back with tries through Tharusha Adikaram and Dhanushka Thalwatte adding to their first half drop goal and penalty, but they will be utterly disappointed with the draw.
