Sandun Weerakkody and Ahan Wickramasinghe shone for Kandy against Galle on day one of the National Super League four day cricket tournament encounter played at P Sara Stadium.
Sandun made 76 in 82 balls inclusive of nine boundaries and two sixes and shared a 77 runs stand for the second wicket with Udayawansa Parakrama who chipped in with 49.
Ahan who made a ton in the previous match carried his form with a 60 ball knock of 62 that included two boundaries and five sixes to help Kandy taking the first lease of the wicket to make a score of 290.
Galle, facing 16 overs, ended the day on 53 for 1.
Dambulla bowling pair Vishwa Fernando and Asitha Fernando ran through the Jaffna batting by sharing nine wickets between them to bundle them out for 62 runs in an innings that lasted only 26.5 overs on day one in another match of the same tournament played at the SSC ground.
Dambulla in their reply was in a spot of bother as they lost their top five wickets with just 50 runs on the board before Minod Bhanuka and Ranitha Liyanaarachchi came to their rescue by sharing a valuable partnership for the sixth wicket of 112 runs to help them end the day on 170 for 6.
