All category winners with the Chief guest

Up coming shuttlers Savinka Weerasekera and Ranithma Liyanage emerged champs in the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles events respectively at the Nuwara Eliya Summer Season 2022 Open Badminton Championship held at Nuwara Eliya recently.
Conducted and organized by the Central Province Badminton Association, and monitored by Sri Lanka Badminton, the event was worked off at the Indoor Stadium of the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council courts for over a week.
Weerasekera defeated Ashinsa Herath 2-1 in the Men’s finals while Liyanage beat Hasara Wijeratne
2-1 in the Women’s finals.
In the Men’s Open Doubles event Lochana and Resintha De Silva defeated Oshamika Karunaratne and Thulith Palliyaguru 2-1 and the Women’s event was won by Buthmi Galagamuwa and Nadeesha Gayanthi by scoring a 2-1 win over Rashmi Mudalige and Tiyana Vidanarachchi.
Thulith Palliyaguru partnered by Buthmi Galagamuwa trounced Chamath Dias and Natasha Gunasekera 2-0 to win the Open Mixed Doubles Event.
The Men’s Open Singles Plate finals was won by Hashan Lakshitha and Ranumi Manage with a 2-0 win over Tiseja Herath clinched the Women’s Open Singles event.
Twenty eight events were worked off at this week long tournament from age groups from under 13 to over 60 years for both men and women.
