Science College, Mount Lavinia pulled off a stunning 26 points to 21 points win over Wesley College in their Under-19 Inter-Schools League Rugby Tournament second-round match played at the Air Force Grounds in Ratmalana yesterday (23).

Science College having led 12-7 at the breather made up their points through three goals and a try against the three goals scored by Wesley.

Wesley of course, who were the favourites to pull off the game following some outstanding performances during the last two week’s paid the price for resting some of their key players.

Science College made the first move in the 14th minute with a try scored by hooker R. Thathsara and scrum half added the extra points to give them the lead.

However, Wesley levelled the scores in the 34th minute off a try scored by Skipper Murshid Doray who also made the conversion.

Science playing with much cohesion and understanding went into the lead through an unconverted try scored by K. T. Jayasanka shortly before half time.

On resumption, Wesley playing with a different game plan succeeded in taking over the lead with winger N. Ogbebor going over for a try and Skipper Doray made no mistake with the conversion.

But Science College came back with a vengeance to score back-to-back tries with J. Priyadarshana and M. Silva doing the honours.

Both tries were converted as they went into the lead 26-14.

Wesley, in a last minute attempt to snatch the game scored a try through N. Ogbebor with Skipper Doray making the conversion but it was insufficient to prevent Science College from pulling off a stunning win.
