The second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be held from December 4 to 23, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed yesterday.
Much like its first iteration, the second edition of the LPL has been postponed multiple times, pushed back from July to September to now finding dates in December.
The T20 tournament will see no expansion from the format that was followed last year – a squad of 20 players in each of the five teams made up of 14 local players and six overseas players.
Despite several foreign names pulling out at the last moment, the first edition of the LPL was held in a bio-secure bubble in Hambantota, with the Thisara Perera-led Jaffna Stallions winning the title, beating the Galle Gladiators.
SLC also said that it would commence the ‘Overseas Player Registration Process’ from today through the SLC website, with the portal open until 12:00 p.m. on October 5.
Registration is open to overseas players who have played international cricket, first class cricket or featured in a major T20 league organized by a full-member board.
