The Senior National Netball Championships conducted by the Sri Lanka Netball Federation (SLNF) will be held on December 18 and 19 in Kandy.
The 2020 Senior Netball Nationals could not be held due to the Covid-19 pandemic and this year’s tournament will be the first event to be held under the newly elected office-bearers.
Earlier, this tournament was to be held in Dehiattakandiya but was shifted to Kandy due to the prevailing bad weather conditions, SLNF Secretary Kumuduni Gomes said yesterday to Daily Mirror.
Meanwhile, the nationals will also serve as a trial to select new players for the national pool in preparation for the 2022 Asian Netball Championships.
A total of 64 players were involved with the national pool under the guidance of National Coach Somitha de Alwis until May, last year but their preparations were hampered due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2020 Asian Senior Netball Championships, which were scheduled to be held in South Korea had to be postponed and now the event will be held in September next year. Sri Lanka emerged champions when the Asian Senior Netball Championships was last held in Singapore.
