Backing his spinners to excel in home conditions that should nullify the threat of the South Africa’s fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Andrich Nortje, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka believes his team can take huge strides in their World Cup Super League campaign with a ODI series win against South Africa, starting with the first ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium today.
Sri Lanka currently sit in 11th place on the Super League table with an abysmal record of just two wins and nine defeats out of 12 matches, though the visiting team sits right above them, albeit having played only half as many matches.
“I think our spin department is stronger than theirs, and because of that I think we are in a stronger position in this series than South Africa,” Shanaka said yesterday.
“We have several options in the spin bowling department, and they are in good form and rhythm,” Shanaka also said.
All three matches of the ODI series will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium, which will be followed by T20I series.
