rford, who was hired by the Colombo Stars team in the second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), has left for his home country and will not be available for the remainder, it is learnt.

The 23-year-old middle-order batsman who bowls fast left Sri Lanka two days ago.

“He requested us for early release because, psychologically, he was tired of living in a bio-bubble and had been actively playing since January and it was team management’s decision to relieve him,” the source close to the franchise team said exclusively over the telephone yesterday, minutes before their Eliminator D/N match against Dambulla Giants.

His place in the team has been taken by Afghanistan all-rounder Karim Janat.

The 23-year-old Janat joined the team three days ago and, after completing the three-day mandatory quarantine, was available for their final eleven.

The Colombo Stars have retained four other foreign players in their squad. They are Naveed ul Haq (Afghanistan), Tom Banton (England), Keemo Paul, and Ravi Rampaul (West Indies).

Interestingly, all four teams are not staying in Hambantota but are being put in a five-star hotel in Galle.
