MTV Channel (Pvt) Ltd, the Network that owns and operates Sirasa TV, Shakthi TV, TV-1, News 1st and Stein Studios has been appointed as the official television rights holders in Sri Lanka for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, to be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13.
All 45 matches will be telecast live on Sirasa TV, Shakthi TV and TV1 in Sinhala, Tamil and English respectively, for the benefit of cricket lovers in Sri Lanka.
The eighth edition of the tournament will be played across seven cities – Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney which will host the final.
“We are delighted to be able to offer all Sri Lankans the opportunity to enjoy the World Cup on Sirasa TV. Capital Maharaja Group (CMG) has a deep history of strengthening cricket in Sri Lanka, led by our late Chairman Rajamahendran. And we are proud to continue to take that legacy from strength to strength”, noted Chevaan Daniel, Executive Group Director at CMG.
Susara Dinal, CEO of MTV Channel (Pvt) Ltd, added: “As Sri Lanka’s largest media organisation, MTV Channel (Pvt) Ltd is happy to entertain Sri Lankans once again from all walks of life.”
He also stressed that priority will be given to the viewers instead of the advertising commercials by telecasting all six deliveries as agreed with the ICC.
In fact, the ICC have also decided to closely monitor the live telecast throughout the tournament.
MTV had the honour of telecasting the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and thereafter, they were involved with several international sports events including the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.
