Sri Lanka spinner Amila Aponso will migrate to the USA, it is learnt.

The left-arm spinner, who will turn 27 later this month, has taken 14 international wickets in 9 ODIs and 3 T20Is. His last international match was against the visiting England team in October 2018.

"He will be leaving with his wife, whom he recently married, later this month," Keerthi Gunaratne, his coach at the Ragama Cricket Club, said yesterday.

"He has ambition to play for the USA. He will play for a local club in the USA and once his cooling off period is over there, will be eligible to play for the USA team," the coach added.

"Considering the current pandemic situation in the country, we could not give him a farewell party. He was captain of our club last year and is a very popular cricketer at our club. He always used to give 100% commitment to the club. A very loyal player and a straight forward cricketer".

"We will miss him a lot but wish him better luck for his future prospects," the coach added.

Aponso will also utilize his skill as a coach in the USA.

He is the second international cricketer to leave Sri Lanka for the USA after Shehan Jayasuriya migrated recently.
