The 46th National Sports Festival (NSF) is unlikely to be held this year because of the spike in the Coronavirus cases in the country.

There are 29 disciplines to be worked off in the Festival but none of the events can be worked off because of the adverse health situation in the country.

The Festival was scheduled to begin with the Marathon events, Race Walking and Cycling events on October 10 and 11 in Kataragama. However, it was postponed indefinitely because of the latest viral outbreak.

The other events were to be held every weekend from October 23 to December 19 but the Sports Ministry is in a dilemma whether to cancel or postpone the events. According to high level sources in the Sports Ministry, the NSF is unlikely to be held this year.
