Half tons by Nipun Dhananjaya who was unfortunate to miss out on a ton by eight runs, Lahiru Udara and Sahan Arachchige helped Sri Lanka ‘A’ taking first lease of the wicket end day one on 330 for 9 against the visiting Australia ‘A’ in the second unofficial Four Day Test match commenced at the Sooriyawewa Stadium.
Dhananjaya made 92 inclusive of four boundaries while Udara and Arachchige scored 63 and 61 respectively with three boundaries. Sri Lanka ‘A’ lost two early wickets that of Minod Bhanuka and skipper Kamindu Mendis with the total on 32 before Lahiru Udara and Nuwanidu Fernando who chipped in with 32 shared a 59 run stand for the third wicket.
Udara put on another valuable stand of 54 runs for the fourth wicket with Sadeera Samarawickrama before they were separated with the latter’s dismissal having made 29.
Dhananjaya joining Udara shared a brief stand of 31 runs for the fifth wicket before associating in the top partnership of the innings with Arachchige that of 124 runs for the sixth wicket.
The separation of the pair with Udara’s dismissal saw the home side losing three quick wickets for the addition of 25 runs before ending the day on 330 for 9.
The match will be continued today.
