An unbeaten 98 in 71 balls inclusive of six boundaries and seven sixes by Dewald Brevis paved the way for the visiting South Africa ‘A’ side to record an easy four-wicket win over host Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the first unofficial ODI played at the Pallekele Stadium.
Brevis was associated in two valuable partnerships, first of 51 runs for the sixth wicket with Sinethemba Qeusile, and the other an unbroken 113 runs in just 67 balls for the seventh wicket with Beyers Swanepoel to help South Africa ‘A’ chase down a challenging total of 265 with the minimum of fuss in the 42nd over.
Earlier, Sri Lanka ‘A’ taking first lease of the wicket were helped by two fine knocks of 68 by Nishan Madushka and an unbeaten 76 in 79 balls that included seven boundaries and a six from Janith Liyanage.
Liyanage shared a 73-run stand for the sixth wicket with Ashen Bandara helping the side to make a score of 264 for 9.
The two sides will play their second ODI match today at the same venue.
