In a dazzling exhibition of skill, determination, and commitment to excellence, fifteen-year-old Reshan Algama took the lead on the third day of the competition, setting the stage for a potential historic win in his third consecutive Sri Lankan Ranking tournament, which concluded at the Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) in Rajawella yesterday. He continued his fine form in tandem, taking the lead from day two onward.
Reshan showcased his exceptional talent, shooting a solid one over and even par round, totaling an impressive 221 on day three. This outstanding performance has catapulted him into the lead, a remarkable three shots ahead of seasoned professional Priya Hemantha, who is at 224.
Notably, the young sensation from Colombo International School left experienced amateurs Chalitha Pushpika and Chanaka Perera trailing behind with scores of 233 and 234, respectively. Reshan’s dominance on the course has placed the veterans 12 and 13 shots off, facing the formidable challenge of catching the youngster.
Adithya Weerasinghe and Jevanh Sathaisvam are placed 6th and 7th with overall scores of 245 and 247. With the last day ahead, they are in a challenging position, needing to bring their best game forward to secure a spot in prestigious tournaments in India or Malaysia. But both look confident of reaching the top five. Pro Priya will not be eligible for these two overseas tours, despite ending in the top four.
The top two finishers will book their berths for the Indian golf event, while the 3rd and 4th placed golfers will fly to Malaysia to play in their event next month.
