Sri Lanka Junior Athletes receive rousing welcome

The Sri Lanka Junior Track and Field Team, which had a successful campaign at the 4th Asian Under-18 Athletic Championships in Kuwait City, Kuwait returned home last evening to a rousing welcome.  


The eight-member Sri Lanka Junior Athletics Team performed well to win five medals at this meet including three Silver Medals and two Bronze Medals.   


Sri Lanka Athletic (SLA) President Major General (Retd) Palitha Fernando and several other officials of SLA and the Ministry of Sports were present at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to welcome the athletes.


Deneth Anuhas (high jump Boys’), Praveen Jayathilaka (400m Boys’), Kasuni Nirmala (800m Girls’) won Silver Medals while Avishka Rajapaksa (400m Boys’) and Lesandu Arthavidu (high jump Boys’) won a Bronze Medal each.


Meanwhile, Birmingham Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist Yupun Abeykoon also returned home from Italy yesterday.


He was received at the BIA by officials from SLA and the Ministry of Sports.
