Kandy continued their fine form under Rahal Amarasinghe when they beat Colombo North by six wickets in the final of the Super Provincial Under 19 cricket encounter which concluded at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
This tournament was organized by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Colombo North, batting first, were bowled out for 177 with only Sarujan Sammuganathan from St. Benedict’s College stroking an elegant 76 inclusive of five boundaries. Thenuka Ekanayake and Ahamed Hakam both took three wickets a piece with Dinuka Thennekoon and Kaveesha Piyumal taking two wickets a piece for the Kandy outfit.
In reply, Kandy lost Pulindu Perera cheaply but Amarasinghe struck 70 off only 52 balls inclusive of seven boundaries and four huge sixes. He was well supported by an unbeaten 49 from Kavija Gamage and Supun Waduge who made 31.
Amarasinghe won the Player of the Final award. Former S. Thomas’ College cricketer and Senior Manager of Cricket Administration at Sri Lanka Cricket Suresh Bulankulame was the Chief Guest.
