Sri Lanka Women advance to Junior Asia Cup

The Sri Lanka Women’s Hockey Team qualified for the Junior Asia Cup after they secured three victories in the seven-nation Asian Junior Under-21 Hockey Tournament held in Singapore.  

Sri Lanka qualified for the 2024 Junior Asia Cup Women’s Tournament after they finished among the top five teams of the tournament along with Chinese Taipei, Bangladesh, Thailand and Hong Kong.  

Sri Lanka had the satisfaction of recording victories over Hong Kong (3-2), Singapore (2-1) and Indonesia (2-1) respectively.  

In the other matches, Sri Lanka lost to Chinese Taipei (12-0), Bangladesh (7-2) and Thailand (7-2).  

The Sri Lanka Under-21 Hockey Team notched up 11 goals and conceded 30 goals to their opponents.   

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Men’s Hockey Team finished last in the 11-nation Asian Junior Under-21 Hockey Tournament held at the same venue.   

The Sri Lanka Junior Men’s Hockey Team failed to win a single match and they lost to Indonesia (2-3), Bangladesh (0-5), Singapore (1-2), Thailand (1-2) and Kazakhstan (2-9) respectively.  

Altogether, Sri Lanka conceded 21 goals to their opponents and managed to sound the board only on six occasions. The entire cost for these two tournaments was borne by the Ministry of Sports.
