Sri Lanka names squad for Commonwealth Games Qualifier

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has named a 16-member Sri Lanka Women’s squad to take part in the Commonwealth Games qualifier to be held in Malaysia later this month. 

 
The team led by Chamari Atapattu will leave the island on January 9 to take part in the five-team qualification tournament which will see the top ranked team progress to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.   
Sri Lanka’s opening game will be on January 19 versus Scotland and will be followed by matches versus Kenya and Malaysia. The crunch game against Bangladesh, which will likely decide which team progresses to Birmingham 2022, will be Sri Lanka’s final match on January 24.   


The qualification tournament will be held at the Kinrara Oval in Puchong, Malaysia.   


Australia, India, England, South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan have already qualified for the Commonwealth Games via their positions on the ICC T20I Rankings table. Barbados is to represent the West Indies, having earned qualification through an internal tournament.
