The Sri Lankan contingent for the fourth South Asian U20 Athletics Championships 2024 will leave for India today.

Conducted by the South Asian Athletic Association and the Athletic Federation of India, the tournament will be held from September 11–13 in Chennai, with six South Asian countries set to participate.

The Sri Lankan contingent comprises 54 athletes, 29 men and 25 women, and 10 officials.

High jumper Lesandu Arthavudu will lead the team.

The championship was inaugurated in 2007, and India will be hosting the meet for the second time after they organised the event in 2013 in Ranchi.

Sri Lanka won 12 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals at the 2018 event and finished behind India, who emerged as overall champions with 20 gold medals, 22 silver medals, and eight bronze medals.
