Sri Lanka off to Malaysia for Asian Squash Tournament

The Sri Lanka Senior National Squash Team took wing to Malaysia yesterday to participate in the 20th Asian Squash Team Championships to be held from November 30 to December 4 in Kuala Lumpur.


The Women’s event will be represented by eight teams while 13 teams will participate in the Men’s event.
The Sri Lankan Men’s Team will be represented by Ravindu Laksiri, Shamil Wakeel, Methmal Wood and Sheriff Hakeem while Fathoum Issadeen, Yeheni Kuruppu, Chanithma Sinaly and Dewmini Gallage will represent the Women’s Team.


Laksiri, current national champion and holder of the title for eight consecutive years, will be the most experienced along with Wakeel while Wood will be making his debut to the senior national team. Women’s national champion Issadeen and junior national champion Kuruppu will hold the main keys in the Women’s Team while Sinaly and Gallage are also expected to chip in with their experience.


Eranga Alwis, Secretary of Sri Lanka Squash will take up the reasonability of Team Manager. Gihan Suwaris and Naduni Gunawardena will be in charge as coaches.
