The National Paralympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NPCSL) has selected 26 athletes for eight sports for the Asian Para Games 2023.
The Asian Para Games are scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, from October 22–28, and the Ministry of Sports has approved the inclusion of 17 coaches, doctors, masseurs, and officials along with the Sri Lanka Asian Para Games team.
Athletics, archery, badminton, powerlifting, rowing, swimming, table tennis, and wheelchair tennis are the sports in which Sri Lanka will be taking part this time.
NPCSL President Lt. Col. Deepal Herath says that the Sri Lankan team representing the Hangzhou Asian Para Games includes many athletes who can win medals.
Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gold Medalist Para Athlete Dinesh Priyantha Herath has been named as the Sri Lanka team flag bearer.
Four thousand athletes from 43 countries in the region are expected to participate in the Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
In Asian Para Games history, Sri Lanka has won 38 medals in 2010 (Guangzhou), 2014 (Incheon), and 2018 (Jakarta). In the last edition in Jakarta, Sri Lanka won 5 golds, 5 silvers, and 5 bronzes.
NPCSL President Deepal Herath says that 20 medals are expected from the Sri Lankan contingent in this Hangzhou edition.
