The National Paralympics Committee of Sri Lanka (NPCSL) are planning to field a contingent of around eight to ten athletes for the fourth Asian Youth Para Games, which will be held from December 5 to 9 in Manama, Bahrain.
Over 800 para athletes from 30 Asian countries are set to participate in this event, which will be conducted by the Asian Paralympics Committee.
President of the NPCSL Lt. Colonel Deepal Herath said that a squad of Under-20 players have started training and the final touring squad will be selected following a special selection trial in October.
The 2021 Asian Youth Para Games includes nine sports disciplines and Sri Lanka are hoping to compete in athletics, badminton, taekwondo, swimming and table tennis.
The inaugural Asian Youth Para Games was held in 2009 in Tokyo followed by Kuala Lumpur (2013) and Dubai (2017) respectively. In the history of Asian Youth Para Games, Sri Lanka has won six medals including three Gold Medals and three Silver Medals.
