Sri Lankan shuttlers triumph at Asia Regional finals

Sri Lanka’s Pulina Wellalage, Shenuk Samararatne, and Varangana Jayawardena won Gold Medals at the Badminton Asia Regional Championship finals held at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah, Dubai.

Wellalage of St. Sebastian’s College won the Men’s Singles title by defeating Adil Sourati of Iran with a scoreline of 21-18, 21-09 in the final.

Then he partnered with his schoolmate Samararatne to defeat the Iranian pair of Sourati and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini in straight sets (21-13, 21-16) to clinch the Men’s Doubles title.
In the Girls’ Singles final, Jayawardene, a student of Lumbini College, defeated Aida Enayati of Iran 21-13, 21-16 to clinch the Gold Medal.

Chandrika de Silva, a former national champion, was the Manager on tour.
